I heard a quote today that really challenged me. I can't remember who said it, but it was a woman. "Having a TRUE servant's heart is serving while being treated like a servant."
Wow. I have fallen soo short. Its easy to serve someone when they are grateful and nice and appreciative and... but its a whole 'nother ballgame when you are being treated like a servant.
So, I was challenged to not serve those around me so they will rise up and call me blessed, but to serve them because they deserve it, because they don't deserve it, because its my job, because they aren't being very nice today..., because Christ was a servant and we are called to imitate Him.
And what about your attitude? Is it still serving if you have a bad attitude about it? If your husband asks you to get him something to drink after you just sat down from being on your feet in the kitchen all day, will you happily get up and walk to the kitchen and fix him a cup of his favorite drink? How about this? Will you joyfully cook your husband pancakes at 10:00 at night because he has a taste for your blueberry pancakes? Even if that means you will have to mess up the kitchen you just finished scrubbing? Would you even do these things for your husband, at all?
When we serve others we aren't just merely doing something for them, we are serving, and obeying, and loving God. Its not our glory, its God's.
This has really given me a new perspective on having a servant's heart.
